The jungle is self-sustaining and is large covering an area of 437 sq km. The main area of viewing is done in the core of the park with its 32 hills.

Historical Background of Bandhavgarh

The park area was once a hunting reserve of the royal family of Rewa and it is from here that the well-known white tigers of Rewa were discovered. Among the other animals, which can be seen in the park, are Nilgai, Chausingha, Chital, Chinkara, Wild Boar and foxes or jackals.

In addition to the wildlife, one can see the archaeological remains of the Kalchuri period and the Bandhavgarh fort, built in 14th century, supposedly by Lord Rama.
